IIMC Entrance Exam Online Rules and Guidelines

For the first time, the IIMC Entrance Exam is being conducted in online mode i.e. a Remote Proctored Test (RPT), where students will have to give the IIMC Entrance Exam from their homes and will be monitored online as well. The IIMC Entrance Exam will be conducted on October 18, 2020, and students who have applied online, will have to give the entrance exam from their homes and will have to follow strict rules and guidelines which have been imposed.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting the IIMC Entrance Exam for the 2020-21 academic year and students will have to give the entrance exam on their personal computers/Laptops from their homes and will be monitored through their phones and laptop cameras.

Earlier, the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) had decided to scrap the IIMC Entrance Exam and offer admission on the basis of merit i.e. based on the applicant’s marks secured in the qualifying examination, followed by an online Personal Interview (PI) round. Due to the impact of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), to ensure the safety of the students, families and officials, the institute decided to conduct the Remote Proctored Test (RPT), which will be conducted by the NTA on behalf of IIMC.

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) entrance exam syllabus covers a range of topics including General Awareness, India's socio-political-cultural history, legal and Constitutional provisions, India's developmental issues, global developments, media scene in India, reasoning, aptitude, and mental makeup, language and expression skills, literature, cinema, and cultural scene, ethics and values, social consciousness, and lateral thinking capabilities.

Students will be monitored at all times through their webcams/camera on their laptops and phones. Applicants have been informed about the Remote Proctored Test and the rules and guidelines which have been laid down. Students will be monitored at all times and if there is any suspicious activity, the examination will be cancelled.

IIMC Entrance Exam Online Rules

Students were required to sit for the mock tests which were conducted on October 12 and October 15, 2020. It was important for the students to give the mock test to check the computer’s compatibility with the browser which will be used to give the IIMC entrance exam. There are certain rules and guidelines which have been laid down and students need to follow before and during the IIMC Entrance Exam.

Before the IIMC Entrance Exam

  • Get everything ready, open the browser link and keep the phone in a place where the laptop and you are in the screen.
  • Get your water bottle and keep it with you as you will not be allowed to leave the seat till the entrance exam is over.
  • Ensure that no item is lying around which can be deemed suspicious.
  • Be in a room where there is proper lighting. However, the lighting should not burn or make you or the laptop look blurry.
  • Dress appropriately while giving the entrance exam as you are being monitored.
  • Ensure that there is no disturbance around.

During the IIMC Entrance Exam

  • Do Not look around while giving the entrance exam.
  • Do Not talk while giving the entrance exam is it will seem suspicious to the invigilator.
  • The candidate cannot leave the room for any purpose or the entrance exam will be cancelled by the invigilator.
  • Do Not use headphones, earphones or any listening device while giving the entrance exam.
  • If the camera angle changes at any point in time, the invigilator will stop the entrance exam.
  • Any suspicious movement will lead to the cancellation of the entrance exam.

What’s Next?

Once the IIMC Entrance Exam has been conducted online, the IIMC Entrance Exam results will be announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on October 25, 2020. There will no Personal Interview (PI) or Group Discussion (GD) round. The student will be judged on the basis of marks secured in the entrance exam. Qualified candidates will have to complete the counselling session online and will have to submit the documents and pay the admission fee online to secure a seat in the programme opted for. The classes will commence from the second week of November, 2020.
