The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kashipur has conducted first-year students' trimester exams amid the ongoing nationwide lockdown. Of the 270 students in the batch, around 60 percent have appeared for the digital exams, the institute said.

For the students who could not attend the online exams due to various reasons, such as internet availability and connectivity, offline exams will be conducted later, IIM Kashipur said in a statement.

The IIM Kashipur was supposed to hold the exams in July, however, considering the COVID-19 situation, there is no clarity when it will be held.

As per the reports, the question papers for both online and offline exams will be done by the same faculty and the difficulty level will be at par.

In order to calculate marks, the institute will use the normalisation process. It is the same process that is used for IIM entrance exams — Common Admission Test (CAT) — in which the exam takes place across different locations and evaluation is done relatively.

Earlier, the institute had decided to postpone the exams, however, later it leveraged the digital technology. The institute is currently closed in wake of coronavirus outbreak. The students were given the option to appear for the exams online while they are at home. Since the students are undergoing digital internships, the exam, informed the IIM, were held in the evening hours to ensure minimal interruptions.

Looking at the current situation, IIMs including IIM Calcutta and IIM Ahmedabad has started their new batch via digital modes. The classes for these institutes are also being conducted online and the reopening of institutes will take place once the lockdown is lifted.
