If given an opportunity, I would like to start a society for reducing stress level among students: Puneet Garg
It was the year 2002 when I along with my family shifted to a new home at NOIDA and we got a computer. I soon developed a keen interest in computers and learned a lot from it. I used to look at my brother' science course books and was fascinated by them. I thus chose Science stream after my 10th standard. I soon dived deep into the stream and developed a keen interest in gathering more information and knowledge from the sources available to me.
After successfully passing my XI & XII, I undertook Bachelors in Technology for my graduation. This was a combination of my interests i.e. Computers and Science. I chose Computer Science and Engineering as my preferred branch of specialization. My graduation days changed me a lot skill-wise. Those days we saw a rise in Lumia handsets and mobile applications being developed more and more. One of my friends was into building such apps and Nokia was giving away free Lumia handsets for achieving targets by making apps for their app market. It attracted me and I started developing windows app. During my engineering, I made several apps and won a few gifts from Nokia as well as received appreciation for my contributions. But at that point in time, I could not generate much of revenue out of my apps as I did not understand the art of management, operations and marketing.
That was the point I decided to take up MBA and learn Operations and Marketing Management to become a successful app developer who can wisely utilize the skills and generate the most revenue and make a career out of it. I started looking up MBA colleges which would suit my needs and help me master the genre I was lacking in. I joined MBA program at Jaypee Business School primarily for its course structure at a reasonable price and having amazing infrastructure as well to facilitate students with the best possible resources and opportunities. Jaypee Business School has helped me gain knowledge and develop my skills in both Operations Management as well as Marketing Management with its dual specialization course structure. It has a 99% placement record as well, which is a plus point.
During my graduation, I was wanting to take up a management course. I undertook some entrance exams. Each exam had a different set of colleges which would make me eligible for taking admissions if I clear either or more of them. In my final year of graduation, I appeared for CAT (Common Admission Test), MAT (Management Aptitude Test), XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) and IBSAT (ICFAI Business Studies Aptitude Test). Top CAT and MAT scores help in taking admission considerably in more colleges whereas XAT is only for Xavier’s Group of Institutions and IBSAT is for IBS of ICFAI university.
I scored a decent percentage in my first CAT attempt whereas my other scores were up to the mark. As I wanted to learn how to better operate and market my app, I looked up for a college which would provide me with a dual specialization such as one that I’ve in my current college at Jaypee Business School, NOIDA.
Jaypee Business School gave me the opportunity to stay in Delhi- NCR area, close to my family and friends and still obtain a world-class education at one of the top management colleges in NCR to achieve my primary objectives out of this MBA program. Other than Jaypee Business School, I was trying for IBS (Hyderabad) & DIAS (Delhi Institute of Advanced Studies).
In order to get into your dream B-School or at least any leading institute, one needs to prepare a lot to crack the entrance exams in one go. People often spend a lot of money on coaching for such entrance exams.
I, on the other hand, believed in myself and took upon myself to learn and prepare myself to get through the entrance exams. I strongly believe that we ourselves are good teachers. I took up mock tests available for free of cost and also the study material available along with tutorials on the web and mobile applications to make myself learn. This technique has an advantage that you can have your coaching handy on your phone and learn anywhere at any time.
A typical day at my college starts at 9:15 am where my first lecture begins. I reach class little early to recollect all that was done on the previous day and spend some time with friends. Lectures at my college last for 90 minutes. I spend the whole day attending lectures also having refreshments and chats in between and in breaks. We do assignments for internal assessments and teachers assessments. To bring a change in a monotonous day we’ve time allotted for class activities totally unrelated to studies such as watching educational movies, documentaries, play sports, read case studies, etc. This refreshes us after daylong lectures. We tend to feel tired and sleepy and these kinds of activities energizes us. We also spend time interacting with our seniors sharing our experience, seeking advises, asking questions, listening to their experiences and much more.
I like to attend classes such as Economics, Business Statistics, Operations and Marketing Management. In these classes, I get to play and work with numbers, solve real-life problems, case-based studies, make, sell, strategize new product development and launch, learn about the factors which impact our country’s economic structure, etc. These classes bring the best out of me and I take an active part in the discussions, activities and the studies that we do during lectures.
As far as extracurricular activities are concerned, I actively take part in oration and opportunities whenever knocks. I actively participated in fresher’s party, annual fest and farewell functions. If given an opportunity, I would like to start a society for reducing stress level among students. These days I see a lot of students are under stress and unable to manage it well.
Also, I would like to start a quarterly or half-yearly inter-college meets where we can have cross-teaching faculties and student exchanges to have a change of pace and widen our scope of knowledge.
Before joining this college, I was essentially an introvert. I felt shy while being on stage or speaking aloud in general during lectures. I used to open up less frequently, trusted people less and didn’t make friends easily. I have changed myself a lot in all these aspects. I now communicate more often and more freely, tend to be an extrovert, trust more people and have developed a lot as a person during the time of my being at this institute.
