IIFT exam analysis

IIFT 2019 - 2020 Analysis – The NTA conducted IIFT 2020 exam on December 1, 2019 at 86 centres in 41 cities across India from 10 am to 12 pm. The exam was conducted in online mode of the first time but there were no reports of candidates facing technical glitches. The IIFT 2020 question paper was in a new exam pattern this year. The number of sections this year were reduced from six to four. The Verbal Ability (VA) and Reading Comprehension (RC) sections were clubbed together, so were Data Interpretation (DI) and Logical Reasoning (LR) sections.

IIFT 2019 - 2020 Highlights

  • This is the first time NTA conducted  the exam
  • The exam was conducted in online mode for the first time this year
  • The exam pattern of IIFT 2019-2020 was different from last year
  • The number of sections reduced from six last year to four this year
  • Total marks was 300 and negative marking was also different from last year
  • VARC, DILR and QA marking scheme: +3 for right answer, -1 for wrong answer
  • GK marking scheme: + 1.5 for right answer and -0.5 for wrong answer
  • There were 20 questions in GK, 35 in DILR, 25 in English and 20 in Maths

Section-wise IIFT 2020 Analysis

Quantitative Aptitude

This section was lengthy had total of 25 questions. The questions were from Arithmetic (13), Algebra (2), Number System (1), Geometry (6) and Modern Math (3). The overall difficulty level of this section of IIFT 2020 exam was moderate to difficult. Given below is the table for topic wise difficulty level.

About 10-12 questions will be considered good attempt in this section and the cut off is expected to be 9-10 marks.

Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension

This section of IIFT 2020 exam was easy. There were 35 questions in total, out of which 16 were in RC and 19 were in VA. All the RC questions were fact-based and easy and all of them could be attempted. In VA, 8-10 questions were manageable, while para-jumbles and grammar part of the paper were very easy.

In VARC, 25+ questions will be considered good attempt and the cut off is likely to be around 30.

Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation

This section of IIFT 2020, turned out to be tricky with easy Data Interpretation questions and tough Logical Reasoning questions. Overall, the difficulty level of this section was moderate to difficult. Looking at the difficulty level, 4-5 questions of LR and 8-9 questions of DI can be considered good attempt.

A total of 12-14 questions can be considered good attempt in LRDI section of IIFT 2020 exam and the expected cut off is 12-14 marks.

General Knowledge

The General Knowledge section of IIFT 2020 exam was of moderate difficulty with usual questions from static GK and current affairs.
