The triple-crowned IIM Calcutta has announced the selection criteria for the 2022-2024 batch with many changes for its two-year full-time PGP (MBA) programme. Announcing its MBA admission policy for the 2022-24 batch on August 27, 2021, IIM Calcutta has increased the weightage for CAT score to 66% and reduced in cut off to 85 percentile. While last year, 15% was given to the graduation score, this year, no weightage is awarded to the graduation score. Writing Ability Test (WAT) has also been scrapped this year and PI is expected to be conducted in online mode amid the pandemic situation. The maximum merit score in admission 2022 is reduced to 90, after taking out the 10% weightage for WAT. The admission process is more favourable for candidates from diverse academic backgrounds. A few more changes in IIMC admission criteria with respect to 2021 shortlisting policy are enlisted below:

  • CAT 2021 sectional cutoff for Quantitative Ability (QA) is reduced to 75 percentile for the General category. For other categories as well, the QA minimum required percentile has been reduced to 65 and below
  • Weightage for CAT 2021 score is 56 points out of a maximum of 85 in shortlisting for PI round
  • Weightage for academics and diversity is increased to 29 points out of 85 in the shortlisting process
  • While Class 10 score weightage is 10 points out of 85 in the shortlisting process, Class 12 score is given a weightage of 15 points
  • EWS category reservation as per Government of India norms has started with reduced CAT percentile

IIM Calcutta MBA Admission Criteria 2022-24

As per IIM Calcutta selection criteria, the PGP selection process takes place in two stages, which include 'Shortlisting for the PI Round' and 'Final Selection'. These stages are discussed below in detail:

Shortlisting for the Personal Interview (PI) round

Candidates are shortlisted based on CAT 2021 score and other parameters like academic performance and gender diversity. The stages under this shortlisting phase are explained below:

Stage I: Minimum CAT percentile cut-offs to be considered for PI

In Stage I, candidates meeting the minimum requirements on section-wise and overall percentiles in CAT 2021 (both section-wise and overall) as given in the below table are shortlisted for consideration in Stage II subject to securing non-negative raw scores in all sections of CAT 2021:

Category Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC) Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) Quantitative Ability (QA) Total Percentile
OPEN ≥80 ≥80 ≥75 ≥85
NC-OBC ≥70 ≥65 ≥65 ≥75
EWS ≥70 ≥65 ≥65 ≥75
SC ≥65 ≥60 ≥60 ≥70
ST ≥55 ≥55 ≥55 ≥65
PwD ≥45 ≥45 ≥45 ≥55

NOTE: The actual section-wise and overall percentile cut-offs may be much higher than the above-mentioned minimum percentiles as it will depend upon the number of candidates to be called for the PI round in each category.

Stage II: Shortlisting for PI

From the candidates satisfying the criteria of Stage-I, shortlisted candidates are called for the PI round, based on the composite score derived using the parameters and the corresponding weights as specified in the below table:

Parameters Weightage
CAT 2021 score 56
Class 10 aggregate 10
Class 12 aggregate 15
Gender Diversity Factor (GDF) 4
Total 85
A = Candidate’s Total CAT 2021 score and B = Maximum possible CAT 2021 Score

After deriving the composite scores, composite cut offs are decided in each category for short-listing candidates for Stage II of the selection process. The number of candidates to be short-listed for PI in each category depends upon the size of the incoming batch and would be at the sole discretion of the Institute.

Allotting points for marks secured in Class 10 and Class 12

Points for the marks secured in Class 10 and Class 12, respectively, are allotted as per the below table:

Class 10 Aggregate (in %) Points Class 12 Aggregate (in %) Points
≥80 10 ≥80 15
≥75 and <80 8 ≥75 and <80 12
≥70 and <75 6 ≥70 and <75 9
≥65 and <70 4 ≥65 and <70 6
≥60 and <65 2 ≥60 and <65 3
<60 0 <60 0

NOTE: For computing the aggregate secured in Class 10 and Class 12, the total marks of all subjects that appear in the mark sheet/ grade sheet are considered irrespective of whether the board considers them for calculation of percentage or not.

Stage III: Criteria for final Selection for the MBA Programme

For the candidates appearing in Stage II, a composite score for final selection is derived using the parameters and the corresponding weights listed in the below table. This composite score is used for the preparation of a category-wise merit list:

Parameter Weightage
CAT 2021 score 30
Performance in PI round 48
Point awarded for academic diversity at bachelor’s level for non-Engineering degree 04
Work experience* 08
Total 90

*Work Experience: For work experience, a maximum of eight points are awarded based on the length of service (in completed months) as of January 31, 2022. However, only managerial work experience after completion of bachelor’s degree is considered. Training/ Project work/ work done as an integral part of curricular requirement will not be considered. Refer the below table for more details:

Work Experience (in months) Points
Less than 12 0
12 to 18 2
19 to 24 4
25 to 30 6
31 to 36 8
37 to 42 6
43 to 48 4
More than 48 2

Final Selection for MBA Programme

The final selection list is prepared based on merit in each category. Candidates, fulfilling all the above-mentioned shortlisting criteria and fulfilling all minimum cutoff requirements, are selected on the basis of the Final Composite Score (FCS). Fulfilling minimum eligibility in any of the above-mentioned stages would not automatically qualify the candidate for admission at IIM Calcutta.
