I have developed my confidence, communication skills, time management and team skills: Mehak
In class XI, I chose Commerce with Maths. Now that I think about it, I wonder why did I even choose Maths as I am really bad at it. But I got through class XII Board exams somehow.
After XII, I got admitted to B.Com Hons. in Delhi University. Currently, I am doing a PG diploma course in banking and finance from TKWS. My mother saw an advertisement in the newspaper a year back and asked me to check out this institute.
I liked this institute because it was offering a course about the banking and insurance sector and providing 100% placements. I had an interest in banking and wanted to know more and also wanted to pursue my career in this sector.
So, I called them up and the counsellor told me that I could opt for the PG diploma course while continuing my 3rd year. They asked about my qualifications and set up an interview. I went for the interview and cleared it with a 30% scholarship as I had earlier cleared CS foundation.
The administration department was very helpful while I was getting my admission done. They resolved my every doubt and question.
Firstly, you have to clear an online test called BAT that you can give from your home. This test includes questions that test your aptitude, English, general knowledge and logical reasoning. Only after clearing this exam you are qualified to sit for an interview. After you clear your online test you will get a call from the institute for setting a time for the interview. The interview takes place on the institute premises. The interviewer was very professional and patient when I was giving my interview.
After your interview, the administration team will inform you about your result. If you have cleared any professional course or have scored above 85% in your XII Boards then you can get a scholarship from the institute. Next step is to fill out all the required forms and complete the process of taking admission.
There is a foundation batch of 2 months that you have to take before starting the course.
I did not take any coaching classes for clearing the online exam. For the interview, they judge you on the basis of your communications skills, general knowledge and confidence. While doing this course you can also go for NISM certifications in mutual fund distributor, derivatives, etc.
Generally, I have three classes in one day. My favourite class is the derivatives class taken by Ms. Shrestha Kamboj. She has a vast knowledge in her field and teaches us with practical workings of the market. Other subjects that I like are insurance, mutual fund, taxation, marketing of financial products and personal selling. In personal selling, they teach you how to handle a customer in various situations. These situations can be cold calling, problem-solving, selling, etc. This class taught me how to deal with a customer in different situations, confidence, quick thinking, etc. I also like the PBC class in which they teach you how to perform in a group discussion and how to make people listen to you and pay attention to your points. There are twelve classes devoted to this. Furthermore, they teach you public speaking, so if anyone has a public speaking fear this class will help you a lot.
After my classes, I work on my PS project under the supervision of Prof. Amit Goyal. We have to complete one PS project per semester. PS project is all about experiential learning where you learn data capturing, data analyzing, understanding human nature and awareness towards the financial market and its products.
I took part in Booming Freshto’ 2018 which is a fresher’s party organized by the new batch. This whole process taught me how to work in a team, how to negotiate with people as I was in the sponsorship team, how to not repeat your mistakes and how to make a plan and work accordingly to achieve your targets.
After coming to TKWS, I have developed my confidence, communication skills, time management and team skills. My whole experience in this course has also taught me patience as I had to face a lot of different people and situations. I have learned that to achieve your goal, you have to work hard non-stop. Do not feel demotivated if you are facing failures, just learn from your mistakes and move on.
