In 2017, the Positive Impact Rating was started by a large international group of researchers and institutional leaders from the management education field (GRLI, PRME, HESI, and GBSN).

Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore and XLRI- Xavier School of Management have made it to the first-ever Positive Impact Rating 2020, which was unveiled at the World Economic Forum held in Davos. XLRI has been placed in level 3 (progressing schools) while IIM Bangalore has been put in level 4 (transforming schools) of the rating.

The objective of the Positive Impact Rating 2020 is to analyse how business schools help in solving societal challenges by participating in the public debate, by being a role model institution, by reinvigorating the school and its culture, by educating current and future leaders, and by providing relevant research results and offers for continuing education. 51 business schools took part in the rating.

The Positive Impact Rating is a new rating conducted by students and for students, which aim to learn from a varied set of top schools around the world. The rating lists 30 top schools that have done well.  For this, international student organisations reached out to students at the top 50 schools in the Financial Times Masters in Management 2018 ranking (FT) and the top 50 schools in the Corporate Knights Green MBA ranking (CK).

In 2017, the Positive Impact Rating was started by a large international group of researchers and institutional leaders from the management education field (GRLI, PRME, HESI, and GBSN). They are working with the objective to support fundamental change in the business school sector related to the schools' societal responsibility and impact.

It is run in close association with student bodies - SOS UK, StudentenvoorMorgen, Oikos International, Net Impact, and AIESEC. Its activities are recommended and supported by WWF Switzerland (Environment), OXFAM (Society), and Global Compact Switzerland (Business).
