Why should you choose RSB to pursue PGDM?

3 mins readUpdated on May 6, 2020 01:51 IST

MBA is one of the most coveted courses among students planning to enhance their management skills and climb up the corporate ladder. To make this a winning streak for aspirants, experts at Rajalakshmi School of Business - RSB leave no stone unturned. In a conversation with Shiksha.com, these experts explain what all initiatives they are taking to make their MBA and PGDM programmes the best bet for aspirants.

Here is the edited excerpt of the conversation:

Q: What is the difference between PGDM and MBA programme?

A: Post Graduate Diploma in Management is an autonomous institute-based programme that offers industry-embedded curriculum to give more practical exposure to students. However, MBA is a university-affiliated programme which is regulated by industry norms. Generally, the course structure of MBA remains the same for years.

The PGDM curriculum is designed in the form of a trimester system so students can study different subjects and gain as much knowledge of different verticals of managemet programmes as possible. However, MBA follows the semester system where a student studies the same subjects for six months.

Q: What is the eligibility criteria and selection process for admission in PGDM Program at RSB?

A: Our admission process is divided into three steps which includes a valid score of any of the national accepted qualifying exam for management programme. This includes CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT, ATMA and TANCET, followed by a Group Discussion and Personal Interview round.

The final selection will be made on the basis of students’ academic performance and overall performance in complete admission process. But to apply for admission in RSB, the applicant must fulfil the eligibility criteria. The applicant must have a minimum aggregate of 50 per cent in graduation in any discipline from a recognised university.

However, this year because of the lockdown, we are conducting PI rounds over telephone and video-conferencing tools.

Q: What are the various specialisations offered to students?

A: We have a core industry-embedded curriculum and hence, we offer all those specialisations that can help students cope up with the current industry trends. We offer specialisations in:

  • Marketing
  • Human Resource
  • Finance
  • Business Analytics
  • Operations Management

We give students the opportunity to pursue the curriculum in dual specialisations with marketing being the mandatory one. This will give broad perspective and better career opportunities to students.

Q: What is the total cost of two-year PGDM program? Do you also offer scholarships to students?

A: The total cost of the two-year PGDM program is Rs 6 lakh which also includes one week of international immersion. We do offer the scholarships up to Rs 2 lakh to students on the basis of their merit performance, qualifying test sore, interview performance and work experience (if applicable).

Q: Is is the residential programme? If yes, then what is the fee for hostels?

A: PGDM offered at RSB is a complete residential programme. We have hostels facility on campus. We offer rooms on twin sharing basis equipped with all basic facilities such as Wifi, and attached washrooms. The fee for the same is Rs 95,000 per annum, which also includes all time meals.

For students willing to choose air-conditioned rooms, there is an additional cost of Rs 35,000 per annum.

Q: Can you share some insights on placements?

A: RSB is known for its track record of 100 per cent placements. With corporates such as ITC, Britania, Reliance, HDFC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bharat Financial Inclusion Limited, Flipkart, Amazon, Big Basket, Swiggy, Aitel, Berger paints, Indigo Paints, naukri.com, Glenmark and Oyo rooms, we have been able to channelise our students career in bright direction.

According to RSB placements 2019 data, we have witnessed  the highest package of Rs 7.5 LPA and an average package of Rs 6.6 LPA.

Also, it is mandatory for students to undergo 8-10 weeks of mandatory summer internship programme.

Q: Why should a student choose PGDM from RSB over other institutes across the country?
A:
We are an autonomous institute offering AICTE approved management programme. We also rank among the top emerging B-schools by Times Group. Apart from this, the reasons to choose us over other institutes are:

  • Strong core faculty team all with PhDs, including from IIMs, IITs and leading overseas B-Schools

  • Curriculum benchmarked with IIMs A,B and C; and XLRI
  • Trimester Calendar, as in the IIMs and XLRI
  • One-week International immersion/overseas educational tour at no extra cost
  • Free textbooks and course material
  • Merit scholarships
  • Affordable fee and high ROI
