MICAT 2023 Exam Analysis: Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmedabad (MICA) conducted the first phase of MICAT exam on December 2. The exam pattern and syllabus has encountered no change in MICAT 2023. MICAT analysis helps the candidates prepare for the upcoming session of the exam. The MICAT 2022 exam was conducted in over 48 exam cities. According to the MICAT 2022 test-takers, the overall difficulty level of the phase 1 exam was easy to moderate. The exam was divided into three parts. The first thirty minutes were allotted for the Psychometric Test (Section A). Section B of MICAT 2022, Descriptive Test, comprised four questions to be answered within 25 minutes. The last section, i.e. Section C, had four subsections with 20 questions in each part. Q:   How to crack MICAT exam in 4 months?

A:

MICAT is among the difficult exams conducted for admission to MBA courses. Candidates appearing for MICAT exam get themselvbes involved in the MICA PGP admission process. The selection process by MICA involves the candidates to take CAT/XAT/GMAT exam. Additionally, candidates need to appear for the MICAT exam. MICAT involves three sections, as mentioned below:

A. Psychometric Test

B. Descriptive Test

C. Aptitude Test

MICAT is difficult as it may surprise candidates with an unpredictable structure and sectional time limit. Candidates may find the exam easy based on what they expected from the exam during preparation.

Preparing for MICAT in four months is easy as the preparation for Section C will be done while preparing for CAT/XAT/GMAT. Psychometric test does not have any correct or incorrect options. Additionally, Psychometric Test is a qualifier test. The Descriptive Test would require the candidate to widen the creative thinking and writing speed.

Q:   Do I need to prepare for Section-C of MICAT if I have studied for CAT, XAT, and other MBA entrance exams?

A:

Section C of MICAT exam is the Aptitude Test with four sub sections. Candidates who have prepared for CAT or other MBA entrance exams will have a clear foundation to ace the competitive exam. Four sections of the MICAT aptitude test include 

  • Verbal Ability (VA)
  • Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (QA & DA)
  • General Awareness (GA)
  • Divergent-Convergent Reasoning (DCR)

Several MBA entrance exams have a similar section structure. However, some may not have a General Awareness section, while some may have an additional section. Candidates must go through the topics covered under all the sub sections of MICAT Section-C to get a clear understanding of their preparation stage.

Q:   Do I need to answer all questions in MICAT's Psychometric Test to qualify for the subsequent exam sections?

A:

MICAT Psychometric exam has a total of 150 questions. Candidates may or may not answer all the questions. Psychometric Test is a qualifier exam. Candidates who do not answer all questions in the Psychometric Test may not get the section evaluated. Performance in the Psychometric test is not included while merit preparation for final selection. However, candidates who do not pass the Psychometric test are not considered for evaluation in the subsequent section of the MICAT exam. MICA will evaluate the candidate's readiness for the programme based on his/her responses in the Psychometric Test. Therefore, passing the Psychometric Test is crucial to get admission based on MICAT. One must answer all the questions in the test.

Q:   Should I follow a similar preparation strategy for MICAT I and II?

A:

Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad, conducts MICAT exam in two phases every year. Candidates can appear for either of the exam phase or both the exam phases. The syllabus for MICAT I and II is same. Therefore, candidates can follow a similar strategy to prepare for both phases of the exam. However, candidates who are preparing for MICAT II must have a structured approach designed based on their analysis from first phase of the exam. Candidates must plan their exam date based on the pattern, syllabus, important topics, marking scheme, and question weightage they found in the first phase of the MICAT exam.

MICAT 2022 Analysis 2022: Highlights

MICAT is conducted in two phases; highlights of the first phase of MICAT 2022 are as follows:

  • MICAT 2022 exam pattern and test structure was in similar lines as last year
  • The sectional time limit of MICAT 2022 has been changed, with 30 minutes for the psychometric test and 25 minutes for the descriptive test
  • MICA conducted the exam in accordance with COVID-19 safety protocols and guidelines
  • There was negative marking in Section C of the exam with 0.25 marks being deducted for each incorrect response
  • Several questions had eight choices, test-takers found this time consuming

 

Q:   Can students take the MICAT exam if their CAT/XAT/GMAT scores are lower?

A:

Yes, applicants may still take the MICAT even if they fared poorly on the CAT, XAT, or GMAT admission exam. In order to be eligible for the course and to take the MICAT, candidates must undertake any of the offered entrance exams and turn in their results at the time of application, according to the PGP course selection process. The primary admission exam used to choose the best applicants is the MICAT, an institute-level exam. To be included on the shortlist for the final selection stages, candidates must receive the highest MICAT scores. There are two stages of MICAT: MICAT-I and MICAT-II. Candidates are free to show up for any of the online tests at their convenience.

Q:   How is MICA cutoff determined?

A:

MICA cutoff is prepared on the basis of multiple factors. MICA Merit List Preparation is a four step process as stated below:

Step 1: Psychometric test) is the first step which is a qualifier.

Step 2: Those who qualify through Psychometric test , their relative performance of CAT/ XAT/ GMAT entrance exam is considered. A minimum cutoff of the best of three scores of any of CAT /XAT total percentile/ GMAT score will considered. 

Step 3: Those who qualify based on the CAT/XAT/GMAT performance, their MICAT scores will be assessed.

Step 4: Candidates who appear in GE and PI must be recommended by majority of the panellists of PI to be considered for the final merit list

Q:   Can I appear for both MICAT I and II?

A:

Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad, conducts MICAT exam in two phases every year. Candidates can appear for either of the exam phase or both the exam phases. MICA is assess the performance of all the test takers based on the best of two scores. However, candidates appearing for both the exam phases will have to apply for the exam twice by paying the application cum examination fee. MICAT exam pattern for both first and second phase remains the same. Therefore, one can prepare for both the exam phases at once.

Q:   Which score from MICAT I and MICAT II will be considered for the merit list preparation?

A:

MICA conducts MICAT in two phases. The candidates who appear for both the phases will get 2 separate result. However, MICA considers best of two scores to shortlist candidates for GE-PI. On the MICAT scorecard, candidates will be able to check their names, sectional and overall scores. Approximately, 1/10th of the total number of candidates who appear in both the exams will be shortlisted for GE/PI based on the Total MICAT 2023 scaled score.

MICAT 2022 Analysis for Section A: Psychometric Test

The Psychometric Test of MICAT 2022 had 150 questions to be answered within 30 minutes. The section is designed to test the psychological thinking of the candidate. Questions in the Psychometric Test are designed to ask questions that revolve around specific situations. Candidates found the section to be lengthy.

  • With specific situational questions, candidates were asked about their opinion if they agree or disagree
  • Besides the situation based questions, candidates had to answer true and false type questions

MICAT 2022 Analysis for Section B: Descriptive Test

The Descriptive Test of MICAT 2022 had four questions with the three questions based on a statement related to ‘Cultural Diversity’. Candidates had to write three points for the motion and three points against the motion. The third question in the MICAT-1 2022 was based on ‘Young Manager Decision Making’. The last question in this section had four images based on which candidates had to frame an essay integrating all the images. The images for the essay writing were as follows:

MICAT 2022 Analysis for Section C

Section C has four subsections to be answered within 80 minutes. Candidates are allowed to navigate across the subsections. Each subsection had 20 questions with no sectional time limit. Below we analyse all four sub-sections of MICAT Section C:

MICAT (1) 2022 Analysis: Verbal Ability

The VARC section or the Verbal Ability section had 20 questions. The type of questions asked in the section was fill in the blanks based on words and idioms. There were three RCs, students found the comprehension to be a bit on the tougher side with difficult vocabulary. The comprehensions were based on:

MICAT (1) 2022 Analysis: General Awareness

The General Awareness section was tough if compared with the mock tests. The type of questions included were in the form of true and false, match the following, etc. Questions in the GK section were based on static GK as well as current affairs. The topics included in the section were international geography, international affairs, famous journalists, ZEE merger, brand associations, brand logos, and more.
