The medical aspirants of Jharkhand can now rejoice with the new Health Secretary of the State, K K Soan announcing that two new medical colleges will be set in the state very soon. Following this, Jharkhand will offer 1000 new MBBS seats for admission to its medical aspirants.

The two new medical colleges will be set up in Giridh and Khunti district and the project for the same will start within the next two weeks. With the opening of two new medical colleges, the total number of medical colleges in the state will reach 10.

While addressing the media, the new Health Secretary had informed that for the construction of the two new proposed medical colleges and hospitals, the government has already finalized a 20-acre plot near the collectorate of Giridih. He also added that the 24 acre land near Khunti will also be made available soon.

However, no announcement has been made regarding the number of beds that will be allotted to the new hospital. As per the media reports, the Health Secretary has assured that the project will start within 15 days after the land is handed over to the Health Department. Meanwhile, the Modern Medical College is yet to be started as the infrastructure is getting the final polish.

List of districts where medical colleges are functional in Jharkhand is Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Palamu, Hazaribagh, Dumka, AIIMS in Deoghar.

As per the media reports earlier, three newly established medical colleges in Dumka, Palamu, and Hazaribagh couldn’t find the necessary permission from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to conduct MBBS admissions for the current academic year.  This led to a major setback for many aspirants who were looking forward to getting admission. However now with this announcement regarding new medical colleges and more MBBS seats will definitely give the aspirants of the state some hope.
