MBBS, BDS Admissions 2020: 90% seats left vacant after common rounds in institutional quota
Candidates must note that the stray vacancy round will be conducted physically at the institute to re-allot the seats to the interested candidates and not online, unlike the first 3 common admission rounds.
State Medical and dental institutes released the list of vacant seats revealing that nearly 90% of the seats are still left to be filled after the Common Admission rounds under the 15% institutional quota. According to a notification released by Medical Council Committee (MCC), the authority will be conducting the stray vacancy round in the upcoming weeks as the admissions deadline has been extended by 2 weeks, i.e. until January 15, 2021. Candidates must note that the stray vacancy round will be conducted physically at the institute to re-allot the seats to the interested candidates and not online, unlike the first 3 common admission rounds.
MCC conducts counselling process for 15% of the seats of All-India Quota (AIQ), all the deemed institutes, and the admissions to central universities. The list of eligible candidates is then forwarded by MCC to the respective institutes for whom the stray vacancy round will be conducted. According to the notification, the list of eligible candidates will be updated on the websites of MCC and state CET. Therefore, candidates interested can visit the official website and apply for admissions to their choice of institute/university. Usually, the vacant seats across the medical and dental institutes remain in the 15% institutional quota and management quota. It is believed that this trend is being continued every year, due to the hefty fees charged for the institutional quota seats.
According to the Fee Regulating Authority (FRA), the management of the private colleges are permitted to charge up to 5 times the fees of a regular seat, for the seats that are under the quotas of institutional or NRI. The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) official explains that since these seats require high fees, they're not taken, hence they are returned to the respective colleges after the common admission rounds.
