MBBS Students not allowed to be promoted without exams. According to the advisory released by the Board of Governors, Medical Council of India, MCI released no batch must be allowed to move to the next level of the MBBS course without appearing for exams. All the medical colleges and the universities are advised thus to conduct exams and then promote the MBBS students.

The decision came after various stakeholders raised questions on the reopening of the colleges and universities. The council in its advisory also said that the final year students of various MBBS colleges can join internships once they pass their exams. The advisory clearly stated that the colleges must aim to complete the MBBS course first which includes practical, lab, demonstrations, etc. within two months of reopening of the colleges and once permitted by the government to conduct the MBBS university exams preferably in a month.

The advisory reads, “Regarding the conduct of 2nd/3rd (Part 1) and Final year MBBS examination for 2020, the time required for completion of the course would depend on the timing of the re-opening of the medical colleges.

According to the Council, colleges and universities must complete the conduction of the remaining supplementary exams for final year MBBS students as soon as possible. The colleges who have completed their course may not wait for the formal reopening of the colleges.

According to the previous reports, Maharashtra State Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh directed the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences to start classes for UG students. The minister also directed the institute to allow the final year students to take up internships once the situation improves. Now with the official advisory, it is expected that colleges will start with the classes. However, they cannot allow students to undergo internships.
