Strengthen infrastructure for Covid -19 training: NMC to med colleges
NMC has asked the medical colleges to establish a robust training framework for Covid-19 related challenges, to weaken any further surge in cases.
Amid the fear of the third wave of coronavirus pandemic, National Medical Commission (NMC) has released an advisory to the medical colleges to get ready for the Covid-19 training. The advisory has asked colleges to strengthen their infrastructure and also nominate competent trainers for the pandemic related training.
The potential trainers can be doctors with extensive experience, retired doctors, specialists, respiratory therapists, critical care nurse practitioners and physiotherapists with experience in handling critical equipment.
To mitigate any further surge in Covid-19 cases, NMC has asked the medical colleges to build a robust training framework across India for Covid-19 related training. It also advised that all health professionals including nurses, doctors and clinical staff should undergo this training and get certification on these clinical topics to ensure patients safety.
"More than 120 lessons across 22 modules have been identified and several of these modules are clinical in nature and need onsite training. The skill laboratories of all medical colleges are utilized for the training and skill training and verification is envisaged at the level of COVID hospitals," reads NMC advisory.
The NMC advisory stated that the training will be conducted by AIIMS faculty and the schedule for the same will be shared shortly.
Some of the clinical topics for training are oxygen therapy, COVID drug therapy, paediatric respiratory therapy, managing shock in children, labour and delivery in women with suspected or confirmed Covid infection, taking nasal swabs etc.
