TN to bring Legislation for NEET exemption; Boy dies by suicide before NEET-UG 2021
Tamil Nadu Government has announced to bring bill in the state Legislative Assembly today seeking a permanent exemption to Tamil Nadu from the national level medical entrance exam, NEET.
Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a major issue for India and his government is determined to bring a bill seeking an exemption to Tamil Nadu. “Let the injustice end,” Stalin said.
The NEET-UG 2021 exam was held yesterday across India with 16 lakh aspirants across 3,855 centres.
A 19-year-old medical aspirant was found dead in Tamil Nadu hours before NEET-UG 2021, it is suspected that he died by suicide.
On Sunday, hours before the NEET-UG 2021, a 19-year-old medical aspirant was found dead in Salem, Tamil Nadu. The medical aspirant was to attempt the medical entrance test NEET for the third time and allegedly he was fearing failure in NEET 2021.
The student was found dead in his room. The police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 174 of the IPC.
Hindustan Times quoted a senior police officer in Salem, “There is no suicide note but circumstantial evidence points to death by suicide due to fear of the examination as he couldn’t clear it in the past to secure a medical seat. His parents were compelling him to prepare and clear NEET. The family also says that he was under pressure.”
NEET was introduced in Tamil Nadu in 2017, and since then a dozen of medical aspirants have committed suicide due to failure in the examination.
The former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief minister Edappadi Palaniswami also accused the Stalin led government of not fulfilling its election promise to eliminate NEET from the state.
