The annual convocation of the institute was earlier scheduled for September 24, but it was postponed as the chief guest Union Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, was not available to attend the event.  

A total of 1,787 candidates will be awarded degrees during the 20th annual convocation of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Karnataka, Surathkal, tomorrow (October 15).  Union Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, will be the chief guest on the occasion. Last year also, Pradhan attended the 19th convocation of NITK Surathkal through virtual mode.  

NITK to award highest number of PhD degrees this year 

NITK Surathkal Director (Additional Charge) Prasad Krishna said 126 PhD (highest in number), 817 postgraduate and 844 BTech degrees will be awarded to students on the occasion. The institute had awarded 120 PhD degrees in 2021. The institute will confer BTech (Honours) degree for the first time. As many as nine BTech students and 30 postgraduate students will receive gold medals and other medals for securing highest CGPA. 

MTech in Power Electronics & Control for Electric Vehicles 

The institute has collaborated with Bosch Global Software Technologies Pvt Ltd to offer a two-year postgraduate programme (MTech) in ‘Power Electronics and Control for Electric Vehicle’ in the hybrid mode. As per the institute, classes will be held regularly from Monday to Friday in the online mode from 5 pm to 9 pm. However, exams will be conducted in the offline mode. Only Bosch professionals will be able to take up the course in the beginning.   

The Union Education Minister will inaugurate the new building of Central Research Facility (CRF) and School of Interdisciplinary Studies, which has been constructed at a cost of INR 48 crore. He will also lay foundation stone for construction of block D lecture hall complex, which is being built at an estimated cost of INR 54.76 crore.
