AIIMS Bhubaneswar's residents urge Mansukh Mandaviya to not rename AIIMS

Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of AIIMS Bhubaneswar has urged Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to not change the name of the 23 AIIMS across India.

Recently, the Centre proposed to rename 23 AIIMS across India to be named according to local hero/freedom fighter, geographical identity or historical event. The Resident Doctors Association of AIIMS Bhubaneswar has requested the health ministry to not do that as the tag of AIIMS denotes they are premiere tertiary health institutes at par with AIIMS Delhi.

"They are epitomes of excellence in healthcare and health education, with standards strictly regulated by the Government of India. Aspiring doctors and specialists choose these institutes for their medical education due to the trust in the tag of AIIMS. Changing the name will not only lead to the loss of identity among the current trainees but will also deter the future doctors from choosing these institutes," reads the statement by RDA AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

Before this, the AIIMS Delhi Faculty Association also circulated a note among its members and asked about their opinions.

"AIIMS, New Delhi will face severe loss of identity and demoralization if the name is changed. This will also affect the standing of India internationally as far as medical education, patient care and research is concerned. We at FAIMS seek your opinion on this very important issue, so that appropriate action can be taken," stated the note.
