AIIMS Rishikesh researches Gayatri Mantra effects on Covid-19 patients
The All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Rishikesh has commenced research on the effects of Gayatri Mantra chanting on Covid-19 patients.
After the unprecedented Covid 19 pandemic experience, the Indian government is focussing more on holistic ways of treatment. Now, the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Rishikesh has started a 14 day long trial of the effects of Gayatri Mantra chanting on the inflammation levels of the Covid 19 patient.
Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India is funding this study by AIIMS Rishikesh.
As per the Outlook report, AIIMS Rishikesh has identified 20 patients for the study and divided them into two groups - A and B.
All the 10 members of Group A along with getting the usual Covid -19 treatment will also be chanting the Gayatri Mantra and will do an hour session of Pranayam in the morning and evening. Whereas, the 10 members in Group B will only get the usual treatment for the Covid-19 infection.
The 14-day long study is a scientific study of the effect of mantra chanting on Covid-19 patients where the health experts will observe if the mantra is creating any changes in the level of inflammation in the body of patients.
Before starting the study, the C-reactive protein of all the twenty patients have been recorded. C-reactive protein measures the general level of inflammation in the body. Moreover, many other inflammatory markers such as Interleukin 6(IL6) levels, Chest X-ray, etc have also been recorded.
After 14 days, the hospital will repeat these tests on the 20 participants and the reports of Group A will be compared with the reports of members of Group B.
The summary presented by AIIMS Rishikesh to the Clinical Trials Registry- India (CTRI) says, “Coronavirus caused by SARS-CoV2 is one of the major viruses that primarily targets the human respiratory system. The Gayatri Mantra is the most sacred prayer of the Hindus. There is no effective treatment or vaccine for this virus as of yet.”
It adds, “Scientists are racing against time for a miracle cure/vaccine to fight this pandemic which has gripped the world. In this scenario role of pranayama and Gayatri mantra chanting which has been used in other diseases and has shown promising effects becomes vital.”
