Anna University launches BPlan course
Around 35 students admitted in the first batch, classes to begin this week. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority and the Directorate of Town and Country Planning will find the course.
Anna University has started a bachelors course in Planning (BPlan) in which students will be trained in urban and regional planning. As per a report published in The Hindu, the State Housing and Urban Development department is supporting the programme. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) and the Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) will provide funding of INR 18.53 crore for five years to run the course.
Around 35 students have been admitted in the first batch and classes will begin this week. Hitesh Kumar Makwanam, Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, is instrumental in introducing the programme. The service rules for town planners of government departments have been amended to provide employment opportunities for BPlan graduates.
School of Architecture and Planning to offer course
School of Architecture and Planning (SAP) at Anna University will offer BPlan course. According to a government order issued by the Housing and urban development department, the Registrar of the university had requested financial assistance for capital expenditure to start BPlan programme and monthly recurring expenditure of INR 17.8 lakh to commence the course from 2022-2023 academic year. The total estimated requested by the SAP for the first five years was Rs 18.54 crore. The order directed the CMDA and DTCP to share the expenses in the ration of 80:20, respectively, to provide an initial funding seed of INR 10 crore.
