Himachal Pradesh Schools Closed Amid Scorching Heat: All government and private pre-primary and primary schools in Himachal Pradesh have received orders to remain closed until May 25 due to the rising temperature. The decision announced by District Magistrate Jatin Lal is taken in order to protect students from heat waves.
According to the weather report, Una recorded as the hottest state with a maximum of 41.4 degrees Celsius. A Yellow warning has been issued by the local MeT department for the heat waves in isolated, low areas from May 25 to 27. According to the announcement, the Magistrate said that the district is experiencing a severe outbreak of heat wave. Several reports of critical incidents of school children falling ill in schools due to extreme heat are also emerging around the area.
Meanwhile, according to Indian Meteorological Department, the region is expected to experience a heat wave in the coming days. Considering the critical circumstances, the authority has decided to keep all government and private primary and pre-primary schools in the district closed on May 24 and 25.
Many states in the North such as Punjab, Delhi, and Haryana have preponed their summer breaks due to the scorching heat. Going by the order released in Himachal Pradesh, schools where exams have been scheduled from 7 am to 11 am, are directed to provide necessary facilities such as drinking water, fans, cooler, or air conditioning, to give students comfortable environment during exams.
Schools are also asked keep the availability of first-aid kit, doctor, nurse, for immediate assistance to students suffering heat stroke or related issues.
