Students face tremendous pressure in class 10 and class 12 to perform well in the CBSE exam. The Board believes that when it comes to results, students do get affected seeing words like failed or compartmental in their Board exam marksheets. According to the latest reports, the Central Board of Secondary Education has decided to replace ‘failed’ and ‘compartmental’ words with words that can inspire students and help them perform better the next time they appear for the examination.
Currently, the students who fail in more than two exams are notified as ‘failed’ and the students who fail two or fewer subjects are tagged as ‘compartmental’ during the announcement of the final board exam results. After the implementation of this new proposal, the student will be issued results that will not contain words like ‘Failed’ or ‘Compartment’.
Impact of 'Failed' and 'Compartment' on students' mental health
According to famous psychiatrists, harsh words on the CBSE marksheet adversely affect the mental health of students. Even if they do not take drastic steps such as an attempt on their own life due to being unable to cope with that stress, at times, the pressure can eat away at their mental health. A subconscious trauma can start to develop in the minds of students on seeing the terms 'failed' or 'compartmental' on the CBSE marksheet. Many students also develop an intense and irrational fear of exams are doing badly.
