CBSE will be conducting examinations for only 29 main subjects for classes 10 and 12 due to COVID-19. The Central Board will also be promoting students from classes 1 to 8 to the next grade. Read to know more.
In view of the Coronavirus outbreak, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be conducting the CBSE Class 10 and CBSE Class 12 examinations for only 29 main subjects which are essential for promotion and admission to Higher Educational Institutions, informed Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on April 1, 2020. The Central Board will not hold any examination for the rest of the subjects. Instructions for marking/assessment in all such cases will be separately issued by the Board.
In view of the prevailing conditions in the country due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the CBSE has released instructions for students studying in classes 1 to 12 regarding their examinations. Read on to know more.
Class 10 and Class 12 Board Examinations
As per the CBSE press release, the rescheduling of the board examinations for classes 10 and 12 is difficult at this stage. βHowever, it is informed that any decision that the board will take with regard to the conduct of examinations will be taken by undertaking extensive consultation with higher education authorities and by keeping all aspects related to entrance exams, admissions dates, etc. in mind,β read the CBSE press release. CBSE will be conducting examinations for only 29 main subjects. The release further added that it will give notice of about 10 days to all stakeholders before starting the Board examinations.

For Classes 9 and 11
Students studying in classes 9 and 11 will also be promoted to the next class/grade based on the school-based assessments including projects, periodic tests, term exams, etc. conducted so far. Moreover, the Students not promoted this time can appear in school-based test/s, online or offline, Nishank added.

About the Evaluation process, the Board has informed that it has not been able to continue with the evaluation work due to the COVID outbreak. It will come out with further instructions for evaluation in due course. Further, CBSE said that it will not be able to conduct examinations in foreign countries as many countries are under lockdown and/or have decided
to close down the schools for various and differential lengths of time. "In the present situation, it will be difficult to bring the answer books to India for evaluation purposes. Therefore, the Board has decided to not hold any more exams for the students of class 10 and 12 schools located outside India," read the release.
