Madhur Gupta, Principal Genesis Global School, shares her thoughts on the current Indian curriculum in preparing students for the future. The CBSE curriculum places a strong emphasis on the holistic method of teaching which is focussed on the overall development of a student’s intellectual, artistic, creative, social, and spiritual aspects.
Education plays a key role in shaping the future of the students by equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to navigate the challenges of the ever evolving world and make them future ready. The majority of well-known educational institutions in our nation, including both private and public schools, adhere to the CBSE board, which is overseen by the educational ministry of the Indian government. The CBSE Board is responsible for designing and implementing the curriculum for schools across the country.
Listed below are some of the key benefits of CBSE curriculum:
Integrated Development
The CBSE curriculum places a strong emphasis on the holistic method of teaching which is focussed on the overall development of a student’s intellectual, artistic, creative, social, and spiritual aspects. It also aims to develop the student’s overall personality by teaching social values and a positive outlook. Apart from this, the curriculum is a very structured and controlled aimed at offering holistic learning to learners.
Curriculum is focussing on Competency based education which emphasises inculcating the 21st century skills. CBE, promotes flexibility in the learning process which makes them move forward based on what they are in skills and what they are capable of. It goes beyond marks.
A recognized board
CBSE Board is a well-recognized board among many schools and colleges. This recognition makes it easier for the students to apply for higher education in various institutions without facing any major difficulty.
Academic module
CBSE Board ensures consistency and standardization of education across all CBSE affiliated schools as a uniform curriculum is followed across locations. The CBSE Board makes it easier for students to transfer from one school to another without any hassles due to its uniformity. Furthermore, it ensures that all students regardless of their school or location receive the same level of education.
Curriculum Flexibility
CBSE Board offers flexibility to students to choose subjects of their choice while providing them with a well-rounded education and pursue their interests and passions. The CBSE Board offers a wide variety of subjects across different streams such as science, commerce, arts and vocational courses to students which allows them to explore various options and choose subjects that align with their career goals and interests.
Continuous Assessment
The current education system places unnecessary stress on students and fails to adequately assess their true potential. It is possible to evaluate students' skills and abilities more comprehensively by including continuous assessment methods, such as project work, presentations, and practical examinations.
Digital Literacy and Technological Integration
The growth and implementation of technology has transformed the education in India. CBSE curriculum incorporates subjects such as computer science while acknowledging this paradigm shift. Digital literacy, however, needs to be further integrated across subjects, ensuring that students are adept at using technology to learn, communicate, and innovate.
There are huge advantages of stepping into the competitive or entrance exams with CBSE as the syllabus is well in sync with most of the competition exams in India like Engineering, Medical, CLAT, NDA, CA, and CS foundation courses. Being a reputed and recognized board worldwide students are easily accepted into the top foreign universities too.
Rational grading system
The CBSE Board has a unique grading system from classes VI to X where students are evaluated by the academic and co-curricular performance which encourages them to be all-rounders.
In spite of the fact that the CBSE framework provides a solid foundation for students, there is still room for improvement to prepare them better for their future lives. Ultimately, it is up to the choice of the parents and students to decide which education board best suits their requirements. Parents and students should consider important factors such as academic goals, career preference, location and budget etc. while making the choice.
