MBOSE SSLC exams to be held twice a year from 2025-26: Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma

The move to have two SSLC examinations is to provide a second chance to students who are unable to pass the board exams in the first attempt. The first exam will take place in February or early March, and the second will allow students who are unable to clear all or a few subjects to retake the exam within one to two months in May

Meghalaya State Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma informed that the Meghalaya State School Education Board (MBOSE) will conduct two class 10 examinations (SSLC) from the academic year 2025-26.

He said that the state cabinet approved this proposal. The aim behind this move is to provide a second chance to students who are unable to pass the board exam on the first attempt.

"From the beginning 2025, MBOSE will hold two SSLC board exams each year. The first exam will take place in February or early March, and the second will allow students who cannot clear all or a few subjects to retake the exam within one/two months in May," said Sangma.

The education minister said that this move aligns with the ongoing implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and is designed to support students by reducing the time lost between attempts.

He stated that the cabinet also approved the decision to do away with optional paper or 'best of five papers' from 2026-2027 academic year. This means that all students from 2026-2027 will have to pass all six subjects in the board examination.

This year, the MBOSE is expected to release the MBOSE SSLC date sheet 2025 in December 2024 and the Class 10 board exams are likely to be conducted in March 2025 in pen and paper format.
