Odisha schools reopen today after summer vacation

Odisha School Reopening: All schools in Odisha are open from today. Odisha Department of School and Mass Education has directed all the districts to reopen schools and commence classes from today, i.e. June 21. Schools in Odisha were closed on account of summer vacation. The schools were scheduled to resume on June 19 earlier, however, the department extended the summer holiday due to the heatwave. The Odisha education department also allowed seven districts to hold morning classes “as a measure of abundant caution”.

The education department has also authorized the seven districts - Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Angul, Subarnapur and Balangir - to declare holidays if the situation demands, it added.

As per the IMD predictions the state will have the onset of monsoon on June 21. The state has been severely affected by the heatwave this year. Schools were shut in April as well as the state continued to reel under hot weather; Jharsuguda in the western region touched 41 degree celsius.

The Met office in its forecast said hot weather conditions are likely to continue in some districts until June 20, as per the PTI report. So far, the state reported one heatwave related death.

"After due consideration of the weather prediction, it has been decided to reopen all schools on June 21," the state government said.
