UP Govt approves ambitious proposal to renovate 8 lakh govt schools

As per the approved plan, in the first phase, the government will renovate schools which are more than 50 years old, following which 40-year-old schools will be taken and so on.

Uttar Pradesh Council of Ministers have approved a proposal to renovate all government school buildings. There are over eight lakh primary schools and over eight thousand higher secondary schools in the state.

Uttar Pradesh government has decided to renovate old ramshackle secondary school buildings and as per a decision taken by the Yogi Adityanath government state government will bear 75% of the renovation cost, while school management will bear 25%.

The state government will release funding for the project in three instalments, in the ratio of 40:40:20.

A similar plan was floated last year under which 50% cost was the be divided between state and school management. As per the revised plan, the state government will bear 75% of the cost and the school management also has the liberty to use their CSR funds for meeting 25% of the renovation cost of school buildings.

School management will also have the liberty to arrange funds from Members of Parliament (MPs) and MLAs for the renovation project. The objective of the project is to provide a safe place of study to school students in the state.

As per the approved plan, in the first phase, the government will renovate schools which are more than 50 years old, following which 40-year-old schools will be taken and so on.

As per the proposal, special attention will be given to the construction of floors, roofs, and separate toilets for girls and boys among other infrastructure-related improvements.
