Amid the decreasing number of novel coronavirus cases, the academic council of IIM-C recently resolved to start physical classes, remaining students have been given different windows to return.

Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta has decided to reopen campus and recall students who are attending online classes from home due to the ongoing pandemic situation. According to IIM-C officials, the B-school is mulling to commence offline classes from December-end. Almost 75 percent of students have already been recalled by IIM-C as they were facing internet connectivity issues coming in the way while attending online classes. Now, the institute’s internet connectivity facilities are being used by these students to attend classes via virtual mode.

Amid the decreasing number of novel coronavirus cases, the academic council of IIM-C recently resolved to start physical classes, remaining students have been given different windows to return.

According to Manish Thakur, dean (new initiatives and external relations), the institute has made the Chairpersons of the different academic programmes authorised to call back students to the campus as per their schedule of offline classes.

The B-school has decided to conduct classes in a blended model. This way, students will be allowed to either attend the lectures in person in the classroom or attend online classes from the WiFi-enabled hostels.

IIM-C has chosen a blended mode of teaching as maintaining physical distance could be a problem in classes with large batches. With the help of a blended model of teaching, students will be able to study following social distancing norms.

Reports suggest that IIM Calcutta initiated an exercise in early November to determine whether the institute is prepared enough to recall students and commence offline classes on the campus. The government of West Bengal allowed schools and colleges in the state to reopen from November 16.
