IIM Jammu inaugurates 2nd academic module of MGNF Programme
Mahatma Gandhi National fellowship academic (MGNF) module of Sankalp under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India.
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu has successfully inaugurated the second academic module of the Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) Programme on March 7. Mahatma Gandhi National fellowship academic (MGNF) module of Sankalp under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India. Module-I of the programme was organized by IIM Jammu from October 25 to November 6, 2021. The fellows joined their respective districts in J & K, West Bengal, Ladakh, Chandigarh, and Puducherry for district immersion where the fellows worked closely with district administration for enhancing their skills and promote economic development, the institute informed.
Professor BS Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu in presence of Professor Jabir Ali, Program Director, and Dr Muqbil Burhan, Co-Program Director, MGNF inaugurated the programme. The official press release said, “The event witnessed the presence of faculty members, MGNF team, and students. The program spans twelve days where learning and application will go simultaneously. Dr Muqbil Burhan, Co-Program Director, MGNF welcomed the fellows to the second module. Professor Jabir Ali, Program Director, MGNF briefed the audience about Academic Module-I and District Module-I and talked about the contributions of fellows despite the various challenges faced.”
The fellows received congratulatory wishes upon successful completion of District Immersion-I by Professor BS Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu. The director appreciated the hard work of the fellows and their contributions in uplifting the skill development at the district level despite various challenges such as harsh weather conditions, difficult terrains, administrative difficulties, and challenges in times of the ongoing pandemic. He also complimented the role of female and differently-abled fellows in making the programme more inclusive and successful.
MGN Fellowship is a two-year programme that combines classroom sessions at IIM with an intensive field immersion at the district level to strengthen the district skill administration and the District Skill Committees (DSCs). The Program has been designed by the initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, and implemented in collaboration with State Skill Development Missions (SSDMs). The purpose of this Academic Module is to create a learning ecosystem for Fellows so that they can contribute towards the strengthening of the district institutions to improve their functioning. IIM faculty would teach course content under each course module that is consistent with 40 contact days; along with off-campus mentoring, field experience, and workshops that should form an integral part of the learning.
