IIM Jammu sign MoU to establish centre for innovation & transformation in governance
This strategic alliance aims to spearhead positive change and foster innovation in governance practices through pioneering research, educational initiatives, and collaborative endeavors.
The Planning, Development, and Monitoring Department of Jammu and Kashmir took a significant stride as it inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Management, Jammu (IIM Jammu), heralding the establishment of the Centre for Innovation and Transformation in Governance (CITaG). This strategic alliance aims to spearhead positive change and foster innovation in governance practices through pioneering research, educational initiatives, and collaborative endeavors.
Emphasizing the importance of this collaboration, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo underscored that the MoU's objective is not limited to working in isolation but is inclusive of all departments for the holistic development of the Union Territory (UT). "It will provide a suitable platform and great opportunity for all in terms of accelerating development," he remarked, urging officers to identify key areas and concentrate on the convergence of resources within Jammu and Kashmir.
Dulloo further stressed the importance of focusing on areas with the potential to attract industries, advocating for the integration of theory with actionable strategies. An official from IIM Jammu highlighted that the MoU seeks to empower government institutions, policymakers, and public servants to address complex challenges, drive sustainable development, and enhance the well-being of the UT.
The MoU signing ceremony, held at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, saw IIM Jammu's Director, Prof. B S Sahay, and Administrative Secretary of the Planning, Development, and Monitoring Department (PD&MD), Mohammad Aijaz, sealing the pact in the presence of Chief Secretary Dulloo. The official outlined CITaG's focus on several critical areas, including economic transformation aligned with India's vision of 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047, fostering public-private partnerships (PPP), and advancing future-ready governance through capacity building, e-governance, and data-driven decision-making.
CITaG, conceptualized through the amalgamation of various entities including the State Institute of Transformation, NITI Aayog, and the PPP Cell funded by the Department of Economic Affairs, aims to redefine governance paradigms. Acting as the nodal agency, knowledge partner, and implementing body, IIM Jammu will drive this initiative forward. The MoU delineates a two-phase implementation plan, with the initial phase focusing on PPP projects, agricultural development, tourism, job creation, and fiscal strengthening, while the subsequent phase will address infrastructure, social sectors, IT, and human resource development.
Through this collaboration, IIM Jammu and the PD&MD are poised to set new benchmarks in governance and innovation, charting a course towards prosperity, growth, and sustainable development in the region.
