Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIM-V) is all set to launch two new doctoral programmes this year in decision sciences and marketing. The official notification to this effect will be released soon.

Indian Institute of Management – Visakhapatnam (IIM-V) is all set to add two new doctoral programmes this year in decision sciences and marketing to its bouquet of courses. The institute started its first batch of Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) after being declared as an institute of National Importance. This led to the awarding of PhD in finance & accounting and production & operation management in 2019.

Usually, FPM is of five years, comprising two years of course work, an examination and thesis work. However, The Indian Institutes of Management Bill, 2017, that came into the effect from January 2018, lets IIM-V award PhD degrees instead of the earlier Fellow Programme in Management (equivalent to PhD) offered by the IIMs.

While talking to a reputed source, director of IIM-V, Prof M Chandrasekhar said that IIM-V focuses on the research of high quality and large impact, building its identity as a knowledge entity.

According to Professor M Chandrasekhar, IIM-V believes that these new doctoral programmes will advance innovation and knowledge in management theory and practice. The institute wants to start the new doctoral programmes by having at least two candidates in each FPM discipline. He also said that IIMV believes that the research programmes will groom the research scholars to conduct cutting-edge research and emerge as innovative solution providers.

Elaborating on the benefits offered under the FPM programme, the Professor said that the PhD students will be offered Rs 30,000 monthly stipend for the first two years and Rs 33,000 for the remaining three years.

Explaining further, he added that the students will be offered a startup grant of Rs 50,000 in the first year and Rs 25,000 annual contingency grant to purchase books, out-of-station visits for data collection and other research-related work. He also said that under the programme, the students can attend two international conferences and three national conferences for which the expenditure will be borne by the institute.

Meanwhile, as a part of its flagship postgraduate programme in management, the IIM-V has also introduced two foreign languages, German and Spanish.
