IIM-Vizag conducts management development programme for IOCL officers

Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam conducted the MDP in collaboration with the Indian Oil Institute of Petroleum Management (IiPM)

IIM-V Admissions: Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Vishakapatnam concluded the three-day virtual management development programme on ‘working with change resistance’ for the senior management officers of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) concluded on October 27. Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam conducted the MDP in collaboration with the Indian Oil Institute of Petroleum Management (IiPM), The customised training programme, the first of its genre by IiPM was led by Professor M V Anuradha, who has acknowledged expertise in ‘organization behaviour and human resources management’, according to TOI.

IIM-V officials informed TOI that the three-day programme was uniquely designed as a learning intervention to deal with change resistance. It dwelt on revamping leadership techniques, exercising influencing skills during change, corporate communication, interpersonal skills, design thinking, conflict resolution, and team management as instruments of breaking resistance to change. The focus was on overcoming resistance to change upfront, rather than managing change later.

The inaugural session of the programme was addressed by the Executive Director and Head IiPM, Urvija Bajpai.  She said; “During the pandemic, customised programmes such as this are important as they help in building agility to cope with new organizational challenges.” She dwelt on overcoming self-interest, misunderstanding, lack of trust and tolerance for change as crucial to the continued success of progressive and performing organisations like IOCL.

While speaking at the virtual gathering during the valedictory, Director, IIM Visakhapatnam, Professor M Chandrasekhar, spoke about the Institute’s growing collaborative initiatives with Indian Oil Corporation Limited and IiPM. He spoke about how care, innovation, passion and trust, the guiding values of IOCL could themselves be leveraged to meet the challenges of resistance to change.
