Besides sanctioning the five-year project, the minister announced the establishment of a centre named C2S at IIT Bhubaneswar. The institute has bagged 31st position in the country to get this honour of chip designing and manufacturing.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has received the administrative approval from the Ministry of electronics and information technology for implementation of the Chips of Startup (C2S) programme. C2S is a part of the Centre’s plan to transform India into the next semiconductor hub.
On Sunday, Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, handed over the approval letter to the IIT Bhubaneswar authorities for the implementation of the project proposal titled, ‘Energy efficient mesh architecture based indigenous neuromorphic processor for extreme edge IoT applications’.
Besides sanctioning the five-uear project, the minister announced the establishment of a centre named C2S at IIT Bhubaneswar. The institute has bagged 31st position in the country to get this honour of chip designing and manufacturing, said the official sources.
“Semiconductor journey begins for Bhubaneswar. Today IIT Bhubaneswar joins PM Narendra Modi’s semiconductor mission,” said the Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Objective of the C2S programme is to train 85,000 high-quality and qualified engineers in the area of very large-scale integration (VLSI) and Embedded System Design. It will also help in developing 175 application specific integrated circuits (ASICs), working prototypes of 20 system on chips (SoC) and IP core repository over a period of five years.
"Chips are widely being used in mobiles, computers, gaming consoles, cars, medical equipment and other electronics devices. It has integrated circuits (ICs). Semiconductor material is used to make chips. Under this programme, we will design chips. If we get facilities and favourable conditions here, we can also manufacture this in future,” said a professor, IIT Bhubaneswar, as reported by TOI.
