IIT Delhi is all set to conduct its fifty-first convocation which is to be held on November 7.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is mulling to come up with a campus outside the country said IIT Delhi's director V Ramgopal Rao during a press briefing. The meeting was about the instituteโ€™s fifty-first convocation which is to be held on November 7. Prime minister Narendra Modi will be garnering the event virtually the chief guest. Mr Rao added, โ€œWe are definitely very keen on setting up an IIT Delhi campus outside India and we are looking at possibilities, we are very interested and very keen but the discussions are at a preliminary stage.โ€ Speaking on the occasion, Rao further said that the institute witnessed a good increase in the number of students in the institute.

There are a total of 10,900 students this year in IIT Delhi as compared to 9,793 students in 2019. On Saturday, during the virtual convocation, over 1,500 will be awarded degrees, a majority of them are postgraduate students. According to the data shared by the technology institute, 3,131 postgraduate students, 3,319 PhD students and 4,450 bachelors in IIT Delhi. โ€œSo, 60 percent are postgraduate students and only 40 percent are undergraduate students. This is a significant milestone. It is more of a postgraduate institute,โ€ Rao added.

During the convocation, 873 students will receive undergraduate degrees, including 744 BTech. degrees and 105 BTech-MTech dual degrees. This year, out of the 298 students to be awarded PhD degrees, every third student is a woman. โ€œ30 percent of our graduating students are women, this is a significant development,โ€ said Mr Rao.
