Jamia Hamdard conducted 23rd distinguished lecture to commemorate the 89th birth anniversary of former Indian President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

Jamia Hamdard has organised the 23rd distinguished lecture to commemorate the 89th birth anniversary of former Indian President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the Missile Man of India. Padma Bhushan Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog; Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University spoke on: Technology Transformation For Sustainability: Where We Are And Where Are We Heading?

The lecture commenced with a captivating invocation by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Jamia Hamdard Dr Ahmed Kamal who highlighted how Dr. Kalam’s teachings, through close angles, have helped nurture and develop the personality of the young and dynamic leaders. Dr Saraswat stressed upon the recognition and acceptance of handprint rather than footprint.

“The key message sustainability and affordability is the key to the success of any civilization and there need to be holistic principles of sustainable leadership in alignment with the vision of Prime Minister of India”, he said.

Based on a holistic approach of complex problem-solving attitude being creative and progressively looking forward to innovations. He brought into discussion the 6R Remanufacture, redesign, recover, recycle, reuse, reduce.

He also emphasized a society 5.0 version wherein the key attributes would be problem-solving, diversity decentralization of power and responsibility, resilience, and suitable sustainable harmonization. As the crux of the lecture, he reiterated the concept of “Vasudev kutumbukam” and moving cautiously and consciously towards a balanced and harmonized global existence. While referring to NEP he mentioned the importance of skill development.

The conscious and intelligent use of AI would lead to the overall development of modern society, he added.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Seyed Ehtesham paying tribute lauded the contributions of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and stressed on fact that he inspired and still inspires thousands of youth all around the world. “Dr Kalam always stood for inclusiveness and used to proudly spread the message that tolerance is the foundation for sustainable development”, he was quoted saying.
