He underlined the need for innovative teaching and learning, adding that education was not only about learning by rote and getting high marks. Education should teach students to work in the interest of the nation in the true sense and become better citizens, the governor said.

Netaji Subhas University held its first convocation ceremony in virtual convocation. Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais felicitated the students with their degrees and asked them to become better citizens. Addressing the event virtually, Bais said there has been a rapid change in teaching and learning in today's competitive era. The programme was also attended by vice-chancellors Gaurang Charan Nanda and Acharya Rishi Ranjan and registrar Nagendra Kumar.

He underlined the need for innovative teaching and learning, adding that education was not only about learning by rote and getting high marks. Education should teach students to work in the interest of the nation in the true sense and become better citizens, the governor said. “The government’s endeavour is to ensure that the youth of the state take up higher education, irrespective of caste, religion and class. It is only through education that awareness can be created and social evils are eradicated,” Bais said.

Bais said educational institutions should aspire to develop students into social, cultured and efficient citizens with moral and character. “Such citizens will definitely prove to be invaluable assets to the country and society. In this sense, convocation is not the end of education, but the beginning. Our teachers should provide the right guidance to students, make them aware of innovative ideas. The private universities of our state should move forward to establish an environment of education so that even government-run universities can take inspiration from them. With this perspective, I held a review meeting with the vice-chancellors of universities in the state and emphasised on the quality of education."
