Under this MoU, the two institutions will conduct faculty exchange, joint research projects, provide internships and hands-on learning to students and come up with solutions for challenges faced by the public health sector.

Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) administration collaborated with the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to prioritise research in the field of healthcare. The initiative has been taken for pitching in to support pandemic relief work. According to the reports, under this MoU, the two institutions will conduct faculty exchange, joint research projects, provide internships and hands-on learning to students and come up with solutions for challenges faced by the public health sector. Earlier, the SPPU had signed a similar MoU with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences as a part of the same effort.

Reports suggest that at the newly-established molecular diagnostics testing laboratory on the SPPU campus, the authorities conducted RT-PCR testing for about 100 samples. Ten professors from the university had been engaged in RT-PCR testing over a period of four months at IISER to get hands-on training for the same. The same team of professors will now lead the RT-PCR test facility at the SPPU campus, which will initially test about 100 samples per day sent from hospitals. Currently, no spot testing for Covid-19 will take place on the SPPU campus.

Meanwhile, SPPU’s Board of Examination and Evaluation Director Dr Mahesh Kakade wrote a letter to the colleges stating that colleges must keep the interest of the students in mind. The letter came after receiving tons of complaints from the students against the additional fee being charged while filling exam forms. On May 28, SPPU opened the window for filling the application forms for the students of engineering. However, while filling the forms the students noticed that the practical subjects of the seventh-semester show backlog and an additional examination fee is being asked for the same.
