Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) recently decided that it will only reduce the syllabus of the second-semester examination for the Bachelor of Science (BSc) by 30%. However, the departments are still struggling as due to the pandemic teaching, many courses are still incomplete. Also, students are facing a lot of difficulties in understanding online education. Therefore, there is a demand being put forth by students that the syllabus of all courses should be reduced by 30% and exams should be taken on 70% of the syllabus.

Recently, the university decided to conduct the second-semester exams based on the whole syllabus. Now, amid all the chaos to conduct exams, the students have demanded university to reconsider the decision. Considering the safety of the students and staff members amid the rising cases of the COVID-19 virus, Savitribai Phule Pune University has decided to conduct the second-semester exams online. Except for science, other disciplines will have a 100% syllabus for this examination.

“Due to the closure of colleges, courses have not been taught in many colleges. In such a situation, the question arises as to how it was decided to take the exam on the entire syllabus. Therefore, the demand to conduct examinations of all branches on 70% of the syllabus was made to the officials of Pune University” said Kalpesh Yadav, city president of Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena.

Putting forward the demands, Kamlakar Shete, vice-president of Yukrand said, “Students of many courses including MSc, Engineering, MBA, have demanded curriculum cuts for the exams. Many colleges have not completed the course. Exams should be based on the syllabus taught.”
