Stanley Medical College emerges as new cluster of Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu reported three colleges as clusters of Covid-19 including Madras Christian College and Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai and MIT in Chromepet near Chennai.

Similar to other states of the country, Tamil Nadu also sees an upsurge in Covid-19 cases. As per the latest report, the hostel of Stanley Medical College Hospital has emerged as a cluster of Covid-19 after its 27 students are found to be infected with the coronavirus.

Out of these cases, 14 cases were reported from men's hostels and the other 13 cases from women's hostels, as reported by TOI.

As per the Dean of the hospital, Dr P Balaji, these students had returned from a tour in Coorg and after returning they underwent an RT-PCR test before entering the hospital, where they were found to be Covid positive. These students have been put in isolation.

It came after Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai reported as many as 54 people to be infected with the virus including doctors, nurses and medical students.

In another cluster in MIT in Chrompet, there were nearly 67 of 169 students tested positive for coronavirus. Out of these 47 male students are kept in quarantine at the Marutham hostel and six female students are kept at Ponni hostel in MIT, Chrompet for completing their quarantine period.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced a night curfew from January 6 between 10 pm and 5 am and a complete lockdown on January 9. Only essential services like ambulance services, medical laboratories, hospitals, pharmacies, newspaper supplies, banking services, freight vehicles and those carrying petrol, LPG and diesel will be allowed during the night curfew.
