Meanwhile, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has bagged the no. 1 position for the second consecutive year among the 122 Indian Universities on research output by the Nature Index for 2020-21. Nature Index is an international indicator of high-quality research in the natural and physical sciences (that includes chemistry, life sciences, earth and environmental sciences). The UoH has been ranked at 18 among all educational and research institutions as against 15th ranked last year.

The research output for UoH published between December 1, 2019, and November 30, 2020, tracked by Nature Index, were considered for the ranking. Chemistry and Physical sciences were evaluated for the output subject-wise.

“Receiving additional funding under the institution of eminence (IoE) mandates that we should have a presence in the top-ranked institutions and therefore we have to benchmark our output with the top 100 performers globally. In accordance with the government of India’s directive, the institute is setting out to do what is mandated under the IoE,” said professor Appa Rao Podile, Vice-Chancellor, UoH.
