Coronavirus Threat: Allahabad University suspends all exams till March 31

Allahabad University has deferred all examinations, on the main campus as well as that of constituent colleges till March 31, 2020.

Allahabad University has deferred all examinations, on the main campus as well as that of constituent colleges till March 31, 2020. The University has also decided to close the Central Library for students till March 31. The varsity’s decision was followed by the issues of the students raised against being vulnerable to COVID-19/Coronavirus while sitting close to each other without taking any precautions.

Earlier, the Central University had suspended the classes till March 22. However, recently a meeting was arranged, chaired by the officiating vice-chancellor Professor R R Tiwari and attended by all the deans. During the meeting, it was decided that due to the outbreak of the rapidly-spreading disease Coronavirus/COVID-19, all on-campus classes, as well as the class of university's constituent colleges, would remain suspended till March 31.

According to a University’s official, the Central University of Allahabad has also decided to defer all the undergraduate exams falling from March 18 to March 31 until further notice.

The ongoing AU UG examination 2020 was started on March 3 and was scheduled to conclude on April 27. Around 40,000 students of the University as well of Constituent Colleges were appearing for these examinations without any precautions like sanitizers or face masks.

According to AU's Controller of Examinations (CoE), Professor Ramendra Kumar, the decision has been taken following the advisory released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the state government and the advisory of the MHRD with regard to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) disease.

The meeting also decided that All faculty members, officers, and staff will continue to attend their duties and office work will remain unaffected by the closure. Proper sanitation precautions will be taken on a daily basis.

The University will announce fresh dates for the examination later. Meanwhile, the students are advised to vacate the campus and return to their homes. The University has also advised students to take necessary precautions against the COVID-19 spread.
