COVID-19 Surge: The Government of Odisha on January 5 announced that all schools and colleges will remain shut in the state. The decision will be effective from January 7, all schools until Class 12 and all colleges would remain to be shut in the state until February 1. The decision has been taken in view of the rapidly increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the state as well as the country. Following the orders released by the government, all offline classes have been stopped with immediate effect.
The order will be effective on Anganwadis as well. However, all examinations including summative tests would continue for students in schools. In view of the changing situation, the Odisha government has also issued notifications for fresh guidelines and restrictions. The state has witnessed a spike in cases due to the rapidly spreading Omicron variant of COVID-19. In the first leg of restrictions, as a protective measure, the schools, colleges and educational institutes have been shut.
The notice released by the Odisha government reads, “However, all such educational institutes are encouraged to organise online video methods of teaching and learning for Class X and XII students. The institutes can organize classes to clear doubts in small batches with the consent of parents by observing due protocols.”
Apart from closing schools, the government has imposed other restrictions as well that include strict restrictions on gatherings. The guidelines have also restricted operational working hours. Shops, malls would remain open until 9 pm however only fully vaccinated people would be allowed to enter.
