CUET 2022: Jharkhand Governor writes to Education Minister, urges to reconsider CUET UG Exam 2022

Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais has reached out to the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and have urged to reconsider the decision of implementing a common university entrance test (CUET) from the academic session of 2022-23.

The Governor in a letter drew the attention of the education minister to the problems and difficulties that are being faced in implementing the CUET.  β€œLooking at the problems, it does not seem possible to follow and implement CUET for undergraduate program in the state universities from the current session. So, reconsider the decision,” the Governor stated in his letter.

The Governor said that they have received a letter from the University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman asking to implement the CUET from the academic session 2022-23 for admission to several undergraduate courses that are being offered in various universities of Jharkhand.

The Raj Bhawan release stated that all the state vice-chancellors as well as the higher education department have also been directed to follow the guidelines released by the UGC.  Then, the governor received information regarding the difficulties being faced by various universities of the state in implementing CUET for enrollment of students in graduation from the academic session 2022-23, the release said.
β€œThe universities said that socio-economic background is not good for most of the students. The students from tribal and backward communities are not in a position to afford the application fee for CUET, which is approximately 500-600. This may increase the number of dropout cases,” the release stated.

The last date to submit the application form for CUET 2022 exam was May 22, however, no official announcement has been made yet about the exam syllabus and exam pattern, the release said.
