CUET 2022: Central Government has announced that it has decided to exempt Central Universities in the Northeastern States and Uttarakhand from conducting the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2022 Entrance Exam for undergraduate admissions. The Ministry of Education in a statement said, eight of the central universities in Northeastern state and one in Uttarakhand have been exempted from CUET UG 2022.

The decision was taken after the central universities had reached out to the Education Ministry and Centre to exempt them this year from holding the CUET Exams 2022 due to operational difficulties. The Centre decided to accept their request after reviewing the situation.

As per the Indian Express report, these Universities have been given the exemption for the academic session 2022-23 only. This means that these varsities will have to conduct the CUET from the next academic session onwards.

CUET 2022: List of University that have been exempted from conducting CUET 2022 exams

  • Sikkim University
  • Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh
  • Manipur University
  • Assam University
  • Nagaland University
  • Tripura University
  • Mizoram University
  • North-Eastern Hill University, Meghalaya
  • HNB Garhwal University, Uttarakhand

“Considering the operational difficulties in conducting the exam of CUET i.e. the issue of geographical conditions, hilly terrain, far-flung location, limited digital connectivity, infrastructure etc., it has been decided that Central Universities of North Eastern Region…as well as HNB Garhwal University Uttarakhand may take admission in the affiliated colleges to the Central Universities as per the past practice instead of CUET for the year 2022-23 only,” the Ministry of Education said in an official communique.

It must be noted that from the current academic sessions, admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Central Universities will be conducted on the CUET 2022 exam score. The CUET Scores would be the main criteria for admissions into UG and PG courses from this year onwards.
