The Delhi High Court has refused to entertain a petition seeking direction to private schools to not charge tuition fees during the lockdown period.
The Delhi High Court has rejected the plea seeking direction to the private schools for not charging any tuition fees during the lockdown period.
The court said that teaching the students through the e-learning method is no child's play and teachers have to put more effort into online classes as compared to that of the physical classrooms.
It further stated that it requires extensive infrastructural adjustments, including all incidental expenses in arranging access to online platforms over which education could be provided and to suggest that, having made all these arrangements, schools should not be permitted to charge tuition fees, would be bordering on absurdity.
A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar conducted the hearing through video conferencing and refused to entertain a petition seeking direction to the private schools not to charge tuition fees from the students, taking into consideration the current situation due to coronavirus outbreak, or at least during the lockdown period.
The High court said the Delhi government order notes the effort by several private schools to impart education online as a welcome step which is aimed at ensuring that students' education is not hampered and they remain connected to their studies during this lockdown period.
