Students enrolled in engineering courses at NIT Jamshedpur can leave their respective courses in the middle and continue according to their convenience before the end of an eight-year period.

NIT Jamshedpur

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur has taken a major decision in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Students enrolled in engineering courses at NIT Jamshedpur can leave their respective courses in the middle and continue according to their convenience before the end of an eight-year period. The decision has been taken to benefit those students who wish to pursue professional degrees or stop their studies due to various reasons.

Students studying at NIT Jamshedpur get the benefit to leave their course in between without any loss. The engineering institute allows students to return to NIT to finish their engineering, according to the institute. However, it should be mentioned that NIT students could only exit from the institute after completing at least two years of studies there. News18 report suggests that ‘Academic Points’ will be credited to students for two years of study in their ‘Virtual Academic Credit Bank’ once they complete their two years at the university. Thereafter, students are free to enroll in any other institute of their choice. Further, the students can return to NIT to finish their course.

Earlier, whenever a student used to leave a course in the middle of three years of engineering studies, the whole admission of the student was canceled. This will no longer be the case after the introduction of this system. The institute decided to enact the decision during the Senate meeting. This policy was considered at the 38th meeting of the NIT Senate, presided over by Dr KK Shukla, and it was accepted for implementation after discussion in the Board of Studies (BoS).
