The Department of Environmental Engineering at Delhi Technological University (DTU), in collaboration with the Perfact Group, organised a one-day Interdisciplinary Conference on Environment and Sustainability. The event focused on the critical role of interdisciplinary approaches in enhancing environmental quality and achieving sustainability. Reflecting DTU's commitment to addressing sustainability challenges through academic and research initiatives, the conference served as a platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration.

Addressing a distinguished audience that included academicians from 12 U.S. universities, Prof. Anubha Kaushik from the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies emphasized the importance of goal-oriented interdisciplinary contributions from environmentalists, social scientists, economists, and other key stakeholders.

Prof. Amar Sawhney from Miami-Dade College, U.S., expressed support for inter-university collaboration with DTU, particularly in the areas of urban development and green infrastructure. Prof. Jessica Barnes from Northern Arizona University, who coordinated the visit of AIIS professors, underscored the importance of linking physical factors with social dynamics and human behaviour to achieve effective sustainability outcomes.

Dr. Evelyne Delgado-Norris from Chicago State University, U.S., emphasized the pivotal role of behavioural change in addressing environmental challenges. She highlighted how education and effective communication can significantly impact public engagement, driving progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The U.S. university delegation was briefed on DTU's sustainability initiatives, with visits to the Vermifiltration-based Sewage Treatment Plant and the Waste to Energy Plant highlighting the university's efforts in water and waste management. Prof. A.K. Haritash, Head of Environmental Engineering, presented DTU's sustainability efforts, which were highly appreciated by the delegates.

The visit led to plans for a plastic waste management policy, carbon footprint calculation, and an environmental audit of DTU, in collaboration with Perfact Group. Prof. C.P. Kaushik from the Quality Control of India emphasized integrating sustainability into higher education to cultivate responsible citizens.

Prof. Prateek Sharma, Vice Chancellor of DTU, reaffirmed the university's commitment to delivering action-oriented, high-quality engineering solutions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
