Education Ministry starts appointment process for six IIT Directors
The Directors of IIT Palakkad, Tirupati, Dharwad, Bhilai, Goa and Jammu have completed their tenure.
Ministry of Education has initiated the process for appointing directors of six Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) at Palakkad, Tirupati, Dharwad, Bhilai, Goa and Jammu. The ministry has invited applications from candidates as these institutes are running without a full-time director for some time now.
The IITs at Palakkad, Tirupati, Dharwad, Bhilai, Goa and Jammu are autonomous institutions fully funded by the Education Ministry. The Director will be appointed after obtaining the approval of the competent authority based on the recommendations made by the Search-cum-Selection Committee which will consider applications received, as well as nominations received from eminent persons.
The appointment will be made for a period of five years or till the attainment of 70 years of age, whichever is earlier. Candidates will have to give details of research, teaching, industry-academia collaborations and administrative achievements, along with a two-page justification in support of their candidature.
As per the ministry, the candidate should have a minimum of five years of administrative experience and leadership qualities to head an Institute of National Importance (INI). βThe candidate/person should be a PhD with first class or equivalent at the preceding degree, preferably in a branch of Engineering. ln exceptional cases, candidates with science, Mathematics or Management degrees may be considered,β reads the ministry advertisement.
The candidate is also required to have an outstanding academic record throughout and a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience as a professor in a reputed engineering or technology institute or university and should have guided PhD students. The last date for submitting the application is December 5, 2021.
