GATE 2023 Live Updates: IIT Kanpur conducted the GATE 2023 February 5 exam today. The exam was held in two shifts. GATE February 5 shift 1 exam has been held for EE, ES, and XH and in the second shift BM, CY, and EC papers will be held.
Candidates appearing in the exam need to carry their GATE 2023 admit card and one photo ID card to the exam centre. Candidates also need to follow all the GATE 2023 exam day guidelines mentioned in the admit card.

GATE 2023 Exam Day Guidelines for Students
Students must adhere to all the guidelines mentioned on the GATE admit card 2023. Given here is a list of instructions which candidates need to follow at the exam centre.
- Candidates must leave early for the exam centre to avoid traffic delays and transportation hassle
- Candidates must report to the exam centre as per the date and time mentioned on the admit card
- It is advised that candidates reach the exam centre at least 30 minutes before the commencement of exam the exam to facilitate frisking at the centre
- Candidates will not be allowed to enter the exam hall after the commencement of paper
- No candidate will be allowed to leave the exam centre before the conclusion of the exam
- Students are not allowed to carry their personal calculators. Virtual scientific calculators will be available on the computer screen
GATE 2023 Admit Card Download Steps
GATE admit card can only be downloaded in online mode from the official website of GOAPS. The conducting authority of the exam will not send a hard copy of the admit card to candidates. Follow the below steps to download GATE 2023 admit card online.
Step 1: Visit the official website and click on the "GATE 2023 Admit Card" link. Candidates can also click on the link at the top of the article
Step 2: A new page of the GOAPS website will appear where candidates have to enter their Enrollment ID and Password to log in
Step 3: After logging in, GATE admit card 2023 will be displayed on the screen
Step 4: Check all the details mentioned on the admit card carefully
Step-5: In case all details are correct, download it and take multiple coloured printouts for future reference

GATE 2023 marking
GATE 2023 exam will have a total of 65 questions carrying 100 marks, out of which 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks will be of General Aptitude (GA). In the papers bearing the codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PI, TF and XE, the General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics will carry around 28% of the total marks and the remaining 72% of the total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper. In the papers bearing the codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, XH and XL, the General Aptitude section will carry 15% of the total marks and the remaining 85% of the total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper.

The GATE 2023 exam will be conducted for 29 papers. The GATE syllabus 2023 is divided into two parts- General Aptitude and Core Discipline. The General Aptitude section is common in all with a weightage of 15 per cent marks. While the remaining 85 per cent is for topics from Core Discipline.

GATE 2023 Counselling
The counselling will be conducted by COAP for admission to the MTech courses offered by IITs and CCMT for admission to MTech programmes offered by NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and CFTIs. Eligible candidates need to participate in the GATE 2023 counselling as per schedule. The counselling process incorporates various stages like registration, choice filling, choice locking, seat allotment, document verification, etc. After going through these stages successfully, candidates will get admission to an institute.

How GATE Score is Calculated
After the evaluation of the answers, the actual (raw) marks obtained by a candidate will be considered for computing the GATE Score. For multi-session papers (subjects), raw marks obtained by the candidates in different sessions will be converted to Normalized marks for that particular subject. Thus, raw marks (for single-session papers) or normalized marks (for multi-session papers) will be used for computing the GATE Score, based on the qualifying marks.

GATE 2023 admit card
The GATE 2023 admit card download link has been enabled at GOAPS 2023 Login. To download the GATE hall ticket 2023, candidates will need to login to the GOAPS portal gate.iitk.ac.in using their Enrollment ID/Email ID and password. It is mandatory for the candidates to carry their GATE Admit card 2023 to the test centre. Candidates' identification proof will also be required to appear for the exam. Hence, the candidates need to carry their GATE hall ticket 2023 to the exam centre along with an original and valid ID proof.
For a valid photo ID, candidates can bring any of the government IDs such as a Passport, Driving license, Aadhaar UID, PAN Card, Valid College ID, Employee Identification Card, Voter ID etc. Foreign students are required to get only a valid Passport/Government issued ID/College ID/Employee ID as a valid and recognized ID.

GATE 2023 paper pattern
- GATE, conducted for admission to masters programmes and for recruitment to some public sector companies, is held as an online computer-based test. The exam is conducted for a total of 100 marks, and the score is valid for three years after the results are announced.
- The GATE 2023 paper will be of objective type comprising three patterns of questions -- multiple choice questions (MCQs), multiple select questions (MSQs), and numerical answer type (NAT) questions.
- Marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer in an MCQ, however there will be no negative marking for wrong answers marked in MSQs or NATs.

- The candidates are advised not to wear any clothes made of metallic items, or buttons.
- Candidates must avoid wearing such clothing containing too many pockets.

GATE 2023: Can calculator be used in GATE exam?
The candidates will use only an on-screen virtual calculator provided for the examination. Physical calculators, mobile phones, any other electronic/communication devices, wallets, books, papers, loose sheets, data or handbooks, tables, pen/pencil box/pouch, watches of any form etc. are strictly prohibited in exam halls and candidates possessing these (even if not using) will be disqualified.

GATE 2023 exam today; What about scribe allotment?
The GATE 2023 scribe must not be a candidate for a test paper in GATE exam. According to the Government of India (GoI) guidelines, in case the candidates have opted to bring their Scribe, then the qualification of the Scribe should be one step below the qualification of the candidates taking the examination. If PwD / Dyslexic candidate have opted for their own scribe but they do not bring their own Scribe then it will not be possible to arrange a new Scribe. No honorarium will be paid to the scribe arranged by the PwD / Dyslexic candidate.

GATE qualifying marks 2023
After the evaluation of the GATE answers, the actual (raw) marks obtained by a candidate will be considered for computing the GATE Score. For multi-session papers (subjects), raw marks obtained by the candidates in different sessions will be converted to normalized marks for that particular subject. Thus, raw marks for single session papers or normalized marks for multi-session papers will be used for computing the GATE Score, based on the GATE qualifying marks 2023.

- The candidates are advised not to wear any clothes made of metallic items, or buttons.
- Candidates must avoid wearing such clothing containing too many pockets.

In GATE 2023 exam, there will be a negative marking for a wrong answer chosen in a multiple-choice question. For one mark MCQ, 0.33 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer and for two mark MCQ, 0.66 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.

The candidates will use only an on-screen virtual calculator provided for the examination. Physical calculators, mobile phones, any other electronic/communication devices, wallets, books, papers, loose sheets, data or handbooks, tables, pen/pencil box/pouch, watches of any form etc. are strictly prohibited in exam halls and candidates possessing these (even if not using) will be disqualified.

GATE 2023 exam timing; shift 2 begins at 2:30 pm
GATE 2023 February 4 shift 2 paper will start at 2:30 pm. The exam will be of 3 hours duration and they consist of 65 questions for a total of 100 marks. Since the GATE 2023 examination is a computer-based test (CBT), at the end of the stipulated time (3-hours), the computer screen will automatically close the examination inhibiting any further action.

GATE negative marking system 2023
According to the GATE negative marking system, for a wrong answer chosen in an MCQ, there will be negative marking. A virtual scientific calculator will be available on the computer screen during the GATE 2023 exam. Personal calculators, any type of watches, wallets, mobile phones, or any electronic / communication devices are not allowed inside the exam hall. Moreover, candidates should not carry any charts / tables / papers into the exam hall. A scribble pad will be provided to the candidates for rough work. Candidates have to mention their name and registration number on the scribble pad before using it. The scribble pad must be returned to the invigilator at the end of the exam.

- GATE, conducted for admission to masters programmes and for recruitment to some public sector companies, is held as an online computer-based test. The exam is conducted for a total of 100 marks, and the score is valid for three years after the results are announced.
- The GATE 2023 paper will be of objective type comprising three patterns of questions -- multiple choice questions (MCQs), multiple select questions (MSQs), and numerical answer type (NAT) questions.
