IIIT Delhi Sets Up Centre for Intelligent Product Development

Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi has established a Centre for Intelligent Product Development (CiPD) dedicated to reinstating hardware product design capabilities in the Indian electronics ecosystem. The initiative involves fostering robust academia-industry collaborations through design, consulting services, and nurturing startups, enabling the industry to address end-to-end challenges comprehensively.

IIIT Delhi Centre for Intelligent Product Development Mission 

The focus is to foster increased job opportunities and enhance the local electronics design and manufacturing ecosystem, ultimately contributing to economic growth. The establishment of this centre will catalyze an innovation-driven cycle, ensuring the sustainability of initiatives under the National Semiconductor Mission. IIIT Delhi CiPD's mission includes: 

  • To build the capability to develop Globally Competitive Intelligent Products by engaging Industry Experts with relevant experience to upskill and train manpower 
  • Developing globally certified hardware and software platforms
  • To nurture a sustainable product development ecosystem in the country by facilitating the development of high-volume, industry-ready products
  • Forging and fostering industry and academia collaboration
  • Boosting industry R&D capabilities to expedite product development by enabling rapid concept-to-prototype evolution across various products on established platforms

CiPD aims to collaborate with consortia such as EPIC Foundation, CII, FICCI, IESA, STPI, and similar organizations to build a network of industry partners and engaged academic institutions, aiming for a broad nationwide impact for the initiative.

Prof. Ranjan Bose, Director of IIIT-Delhi, remarked, “CiPD will work on innovative, high-tech products that are both path-breaking and incorporate emerging technologies. The Centre aims to nurture hardware design capabilities through research and strategic collaborations and create a conducive ecosystem for startups. CiPD’s establishment is a significant stride toward realizing ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in electronics.”
