IIT Bombay: BETiC, NSE India join hands to strengthen India's healthcare ecosystem
The aim of the collaboration is to flood the market with indigenous products, generate employment & enhance treatment.
The Biomedical Engineering and Technology Innovation Centre (BETIC) at IIT Bombay was set up to bring together clinicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, and facilitators to develop indigenous medical devices that are affordable and suitable for the Indian population. Another vision of the project is to be ‘atmanirbhar’ and contribute to the ‘Made in India’ movement.’
"CSR Impact Story: Indigenous Medical Devices for Affordable Healthcare @BETiC14 & @NSEIndia join forces to strengthen India's healthcare ecosystem! Mission: Flood the market with indigenous products, generate employment & enhance treatment," reads IIT Bombay's tweet.
The name of the project under BETiC-NSE Foundation is - Innovative Medical Devices for Affordable Healthcare.
Unfortunately, there are three critical gaps in India’s healthcare industry. These include Innovative Products, Trained Innovators, and Integrated Facilities. BETIC and the NSE Foundation have come together to address these crucial gaps, develop indigenous capability in the field of medical device innovation, and strengthen our healthcare ecosystem.
The key objectives of the project are - six novel medical devices which have completed the first stage of field trials, will be identified and deployed through NGOs and Government hospitals, etc. for larger field and market trials, train at least 12 aspiring researchers/innovators, utilize the existing facility for product development, and the project will be situated in Maharashtra and other resource-constrained states.
The reduced healthcare burden, import substitution, socially impactful ventures, and employment opportunities that the project will create will significantly support the state and central government. The medical device solutions will also benefit other South-East Asian/ African countries with low resources.
