IIT Bombay and Alibi Global Announce Technology Transfer Agreement for Innovative Spherical Robot

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and Alibi Global Private Limited have signed a License and Consultancy Agreement for the technology transfer of the Spherical Robot for Room Intervention. As part of this agreement, IIT Bombay will offer support to Alibi in scaling up production and further customizing the technology to address the unique requirements of defence and paramilitary forces.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the advancement of domestic technology and reinforces the commitment of both institutions to supporting national security through innovation. This agreement was signed at IIT Bombay by Prof. Sachin Patwardhan, Dean (R&D) of IIT Bombay, and Dr SP Sunil, Director of Operations at Alibi Global.

Spherical Robot

The Spherical Robot, a state-of-the-art surveillance technology developed for use by defence and law enforcement agencies, is designed to operate in hazardous environments compromised by hostile forces. This compact, teleoperated robot, approximately the size of a handball, can be deployed with ease into difficult terrains, providing real-time panoramic visual feedback to its operators.

This technology was develoed at the National Centre for Excellence in Technology for Internal Security (NCETIS), a centre funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) at IIT Bombay. The project was spearheaded by Prof. Leena Vachhani and Prof. Abhishek Gupta, whose team's innovative work is set to boost the tactical capabilities of security forces nationwide. Prof. B.G. Fernandes, Professor-in-Charge at NCETIS, noted that it is one of the flagship projects highly regarded by security agencies and police forces.

Alibi, a cyber intelligence and digital forensic startup company based in the CDAC building at Technopark, Trivandrum, has been an active contributor to India's defence and law enforcement sectors for over three years and is proud to collaborate with IIT Bombay to bring Indian Innovations to the forefront of the global market under the Make In India initiative, stated Shyam KM, the Business Director of Alibi.
